The Miracle on Yellow Turf was a field hockey match played between the University of Queensland Hockey Club "Redmen" and Valley Hockey Club "Diehards" in the finals of the Brisbane Hockey Association in August, 2013. The match is notable for the stunning capitulation by the University of Queensland Hockey Club on the yellow turf of Easts Hockey Tiger Turf. The match is widely regarded as one of the most memorable in Brisbane Hockey history. Game Summary The reigning premier Redmen went into their knock-out minor semi-final against Valley quietly confident of starting a dark-horse charge through the finals series. Valley came out firing and had an early goal due to lax marking, but the Redmen responded strongly to lead 2-1 at half time after goals to Guy Hannan and Damien Queisser. The young lad from Fyshwyck, Brendan Laidley was on fire, earning the Redmen every one of their 6 Penalty Corners for the match, and he put them further ahead early in the second half with the patented "Dorsal fin" drag flick. Valley responded with a penalty corner of their own before rejuvenated Clayton Warner put the Redmen 4-2 ahead late in the match via another penalty corner. The last two minutes have been coined "Miracle on yellow turf" with Valley earning 2 dubious penalty corners in the last 90 seconds of regulation time to level the match. The Redmen considered themselves extra time specialists after last year's successful campaign, but in the first minute of extra time Valley converted an attacking circle scrap to knock out the reigning premiers, and leave all wondering what might have been. Best Player on the day was Brendan "Fyshy" Laidley.
