Mildred "Millie" Scott is a member of the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders in Middlesex, New Jersey and a former law officer for the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department. She is currently running for the seat of Middlesex County Sheriff. Millie Scott was born and raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey as the daughter of Gertrude and the late Harold Lincoln. Scott graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1966 and two years later, began working in the Middlesex County Courthouse. She graduated from the Middlesex County Police Academy in May 1970 at a time when few women were breaking into police work. Millie Scott is the wife of Richard Scott, a retired Lieutenant from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and is the mother of three adult children - Chanelle, Ivan and Cheryl Scott. She is also a grandmother of seven. Scott worked her way up through the ranks of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department and in 1979, she was promoted to Sergeant, followed by Lieutenant in 1980. Two years later, Scott was named Chief Warrant Officer, a second in command post to Sheriff Joseph Spicuzzo. Millie was then promoted to Chief Sheriff’s Officer in October 1991. Chief Scott had the distinction of being the first black female Chief in New Jersey. Chief Scott, a highly decorated officer and a skilled markswoman, retired after 27 years in the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department . She received numerous honors and awards throughout her career in law enforcement. In 1996, Millie was elected as a Councilwoman-At-Large in Piscataway Township. Prior to being elected to that position, Millie was a member of the Piscataway Zoning Board and the Middlesex County Planning Board. She also coached Piscataway Recreation Girl’s Softball and was a Delaware Valley Girl Scout Leader. Scott was elected to the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 2008 and currently serves as the Chair of the Law and Public Safety Committee, overseeing all county law enforcement agencies. Freeholder Scott, a fiscal conservative, worked with the Warden to consolidate Youth Services under the supervision of Adult Corrections, resulting in an $800,000 savings to taxpayers. She worked with Monmouth County to establish a shared services agreement designed to generate $2 million in tax savings for county residents and collaborated with the Middlesex Prosecutor to secure $1.5 million in Federal Department of Homeland Security grants in order to create an intelligence information database that would be shared across law enforcement agencies. On February 10, 2010 Millie announced her candidacy for Middlesex County Sheriff , citing her 27 years of law enforcement experience and record of service.
