Public Sector
Joseph Romano worked in the public sector from 1969 until 1985. Joseph held positions for the County of Sonoma as a Deputy Sheriff, where he honorable retired due to a gunshot injury he suffered while on duty. Joseph also worked for the City of Santa Rosa for the Water & Waste Water Utility Department, where he held the title General Manager and significantly increased efficiency and reduced operating expenses for the city.
Private Sector
From 1985 until 1999, Joseph Romano held the position of CEO for Specialized Computer Systems Inc., a six store corporation engaged in sales of computer hardware, software, and other services. This company was later sold to Computer Land. From 1996 until 2005, Joseph Romano was President and Owner of Quartz Castle Inc., a leader in northern California’s natural and organic foods movement. Finally in 1999, Joseph Romano established GeneratorJoe Inc., after a situation occurred at GeneratorJoe’s parent company, Quartz Castle Inc., which demanded use of a generator. The success of GeneratorJoe Inc., can mostly be attributed to their E-Commerce website, which was intricately developed well before the popularity of commercial websites. GeneratorJoe has been an industry leader ever since, and has provided generators for disaster relief in the United States, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
During Hurrican Katrina and Rita, Joseph Romano stated "We are happy to be able to serve the disaster victims. Everyone on our staff, our suppliers and our local bank, the Exchange Bank, went the extra mile to get the job done." "This disaster is not over yet. It will be several months before major progress is made and in the mean time we must all do what we can to help out." "At GeneratorJoe® we pride ourselves in getting the job done, I think we can be proud of what we accomplished."
GeneratorJoe is still an industry leader and advocate for fair pricing and ethical business practices. GeneratorJoe leads in online sales of diesel generators, portable generators, generator fuels, and other generator parts and accessories.
Politics
Joseph Romano is well respected in his community for being a strong advocate for preserving public safety, affordable housing development, and supporting local business.
"One of the things that really grips me is that the City threatens to cut fire and police services when the budget gets tight. We need to strengthen the police and fire departments and eliminate threatened cuts to these vital services. There are other ways to balance the budget without endangering the public." -Joseph Romano (2004)
When Joseph Romano ran for City Council in 2004, one of his strongest supporters was Mike Turnick, who was City Fire Chief for 17 years.
"I worked directly with Joe Romano for many years when he was the General Manager of the City water department. Joe was a big supporter of the fire department and created many programs that assisted the fire department in carrying out its public safety mission. Joe had the water department take over fire hydrant maintenance to relieve firefighters from this duty and instituted a program that required all damaged fire hydrants to be repaired within 24 hours. In those days this was a major improvement." - Chief Turnick (2004)
