Michelle Tempest

Dr Michelle Tempest (born 23 January 1976) is a British psychiatrist and author. Academic background Tempest comes from Surrey and initially qualified as a doctor at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge (MA, MB BChir). She subsequently pursued the study of law, earning an LLM again at Cambridge. She went onto teach medicine, and law, lecturing both undergraduates and post-graduate students at the University of Cambridge and trainees from UEA. Medical career Dr Tempest practised at Addenbrooke's Hospital in numerous different departments from general medicine and accident and emergency to infectious diseases, vascular surgery and colorectal surgery. Following this, she practised as a psychiatrist at Fulbourn Hospital and its surrounding hospitals. As well as general psychiatry, she has expertise in rehabilitation psychiatry, learning disability psychiatry, old age psychiatry and liaison psychiatry. Tempest: the author Tempest edited the book The Future of the NHS (published in 2006 (ISBN 1-85811-369-5) by xpl Publishing) following her own experiences within the organisation and in particular through her admiration for the staff and in the hope of improving the service for her patients. Her second book (with Tim Kevan) resulted in Why Lawyers Should Surf, which was reviewed by The Independent as a book which "subtly restores a sense of poetry to ... become a better human being".
