Michelangelo Galliani

Michaelangelo Galliani born 1975) is an Itlaian sculptor.
Biography
Born in Montecchio Emilia, Reggio Emilia, Italy in 1975, Galliani began his career as a sculptor while very young and his artistic tendency manifested itself more clearly after graduating in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, Italy. In addition to his work as a sculptor, the artist currently teaches "Techniques of marble and hard stones" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino.
Galliani focuses on human bodies, faces and expressions, methodically carving the marble like a surgeon and combining different traditions and materials with a recourse to classical tendencies. His metamorphic figures are often characterized by the ‘non finito’ technique (unfinished), like they were ancient artifacts; the "human fragments" are then combined with different materials such as iron, brass, wax, gold and lead to achieve a more contemporary character.
The artist has been consolidating his presence nationally and internationally with solo and group exhibitions in Italy, London, Spain, Istanbul and China. Among the recent personal exhibitions: “Sensitive Surfaces” at Cris Contini Contemporary gallery, London in 2019; “La Via D’Oro”at Galleria d’arte contemporanea, Palazzo Ducale, Modena, Italy in 2019; “Rebvs vitae” at Green house, La Versiliana, Pietrasanta, Italy in 2018; “Tree” at Roma tre University, Rome in 2018.
Furthemore, Galliani’s artworks were featured in the exhibition/competition Expo Arte Italiana curated by Vittorio Sgarbi in 2015 and he exhibited at the Biennale “Giovani of Monza” in 2005 and at the Rome Quadriennale in 2004. The artist also won several prizes among which the Franco Cuomo International Award in 2019, the Acqua et Terra Award, Ferrara in 2017 and the Fabbri Award, Bologna in 2007.
