Michael Maiello

Michael Maiello (also known as Michael Gural-Maiello) is a New York-based playwright, comedian, journalist, and author, whose work has appeared in multiple publications including The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, McSweeney's, The Daily Beast, The New York Times, Esquire, and Forbes, where he spent a decade in various roles including founding editor of Intelligent Investing. He was a frequent guest on Forbes on Fox, Cavuto on Fox Business News, Kudlow on CNBC.
Maiello is the author of published plays including PRINCIPIA by Michael Maiello (playwright) & Andrew Recinos (composer), a musical fable based on the Principia Discordia and other post-modern legends. This comic, musical exploration of religion, philosophy and conspiracy theories, (and also, how to take over the world), premiered at FringeNYC 2003. Included in Playing with Canons, edited by Martin Denton and published by the New York Theatre Experience in 2006. Other published plays include Waiting for Death, and Night of Faith. He has written plays for production at the Joseph Papp Memorial Public Theatre, New York, NY; LaMama ETC, New York, NY; Dixon Place, New York, NY; Theatre Studio Inc, New York, NY; Ring of Fire Productions, New York, NY; The Riverside Repertory Theatre, Albuquerque, NM, theProvincetown Theatre Company, Provincetown, RI; The West Coast Ensemble, Los Angeles, CA; Impact Theatre in Berkeley, CA; the Wharf Rat in Salem, Mass; The Shakespeare Company, Calgary-Alberta, Canada; Manhattan TheatreSource; The 2003 New York International Fringe Festival, The Project Footlight Festival at Dixon Place and the Abingdon Theatre Company’s 2012 benefit. Stand-Up Comedy at The Laugh Factory; The Comic Strip, Mo Pitkins, The Brick Theatre, and The Tank (all in New York), the 2006 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, and the 2007 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
His published books include Shuts & Failures: Rejected New Yorker Pieces (Also Rejected by McSweeney’s!) (Hutch Books, May 2013), and Buy the Rumor, Sell the Fact (McGraw-Hill, March 2004).
Michael lives in New York City with his wife and son.
