Rachel Axler is an American writer for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. She is the only female writer on the writing staff, which won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Musical or Comedy Program on August 27, 2006.
Axler was raised in Queens, New York. She is a graduate of Hunter College High School and Williams College and holds an MFA in Playwriting from the UCSD. Some of her plays include "Archaeology," "Disappearance Conundrum," "The Weight of Paper," and "Smudge." She recently received a playwriting fellowship from The Lark Theatre in New York City, and she has been commissioned to write plays for South Coast Repertory and Lincoln Center Theater. Her writing has appeared on McSweeneys.net, in the journal In Character, on stage in the New York International Fringe Festival, and in the New York Times.
