Michael Hesp (born in 1982) is a British contemporary artist. Born in Doncaster Hesp obtained a B.A. Hons in fine art at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design UCE in 2007 Between 2004 and 2007 he was a founding member of an art collective called SMACK alongside Philip Barber, Sarah-Jane Bellion, Mark Essen and Henry Orton. SMACK's first exhibition "Die First" showed at The City Space Gallery in Birmingham 2005. In 2006 SMACK exhibited at The Works gallery in Birmingham under various names with the inclusian of artists Helen Brown, Rachel Merchant and Danial Smith. SMACK also exhibited at BIAD in 2005 under the title "Tutorial" and again in 2007 under the title "Plinths". In 2007 Hesp organised a performance based on Dyslexia including 10 of his contemporaries, staged in Victoria Square, Birmingham. He has also worked alongside Mark McGowan in performance based work
