Michael Charles Edwards

Dr. Michael Charles Edwards is an American plastic surgeon, human geneticist, and medical innovator. He resides in Los Angeles, California. Edwards is credited with scientific and medical discoveries spanning multiple disciplines.
Working in a laboratory of a geneticist Stephen J. Elledge PhD, Edwards was one of the first scientists to harness the power of cross species studies that lead to human disease discoveries and applications. Edwards persistence lead to the discovery of the humans genes altered in the formation of Beckwith-Wiedermann Syndrome, Wilms’ Tumor, and Holoprocencephaly. Furthermore, Edwards discovered and characterized Cyclin K, which plays a central role in human physiology and disease development, including cardiac hypertrophy and human immunodeficiency virus-1 pathogenesis.. His most important publication "P57(kip2), a structurally distinct member of the p21(cip1) cdk inhibitor family, is a candidate tumor-suppressor gene" by Martsuka S, Edwards MC, BAI C, Parker S, Zhang PM, Baldini A, Harper JW, Ellledge SJ, in Geners and Development 9(6) 650-662 (1995) has been cited the remarkable number of 682 times according to Web of Science.
As a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Edwards is additionally credited with discoveries and innovations in neuropathy surgery and facial aesthetic surgery <ref name="face00131-9"/>
