Michael Andrec

Michael Andrec (born 1968 in Toledo, Ohio) is a Ukrainian-American bandurist and composer in a variety of styles, primarily for the bandura. He is an active member of Julian Kytasty's New York Bandura Ensemble, and the Experimental Bandura Trio. He is also a singer, choral conductor and professor of church music at St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary in Bound Brook, New Jersey.
Andrec was one of the founding members of the Experimental Bandura Trio and participated in some of the original Bandura Downtown, the Radio Banduristan Song & Dance Ensemble, Radio Banduristan Collegium Musicum and as a composer of new works for bandura. His work also includes performances in Tom Lee’s puppet drama “Hoplite Diary”, Evan Hause’s opera “Nightingale: The Last Days of James Forrestal”, and at a number of Yara Arts Group events. He currently co-director the the St. Andrew’s Church Choir at the Metropolia Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in South Bound Brook, NJ.
