Mendez Middle School is located in southeast Austin, Texas (5106 Village Square, Austin, TX 78744) and is part of the Austin Independent School District.This school also has a weather station that uses KXAN-TV to broadcast. This school also has the largest Performing Arts Center in the district. Its current attendance exceeds 1,500 students, with the majority being Hispanic and Mexican-Americans. It is a well It is a 6th-through-8th middle school built in 1987. The school has a dress code. The Texas State Accountability Ratings for 2007 gave it "unacceptable" ratings in the following categories: Reading - African American; Math - African American; Social Studies - Hispanic, Economically Disadvantaged.
