Menarchy

Menarchy is a famous joke invented by Mitchell Tym in 2008, which gained popularity in Australia but is yet to gain exposure overseas. It is as follows:

"What do you call a kingdom with no women?"

"I don't know."

"A MENARCHY!"

"Lolz!"

The PUNchline of the joke is the pun on the term menarche - the onset of puberty in TYGs. Due to the slightly taboo nature of men discussing the menstrual cycle, the joke achieves humour partly through taboo. The humour of the joke derives also from its status as a mennerism, a word created by inserting "men" into an existing word. Tym is a close friend and artistic intimate of author and musician Young Gregory Ryder, a leading exponent of the mennerism. The juxtaposition of an all male domain and a condition affecting only women has been suggested to be at the root of the widespread popularity of the joke.
