Melissa Miles McCarter

Melissa Miles McCarter (born February 27, 1975 in Houston, TX) is an American editor, memoirist, and novelist. McCarter has written numerous essays, articles and columns about mental illness, popular culture, infertility, grief and postfeminism. She lives in the small rural community of Arcadia Valley in Southeast Missouri where she has been active in community development. Mccarter’s has presented and published research on feminism, disability studies and infertility at various academic conferences and in academic journals. Her writing and research on mental illness and postfeminism is referenced in a number of academic and non-academic sources.
Education
McCarter received her PhD in English, rhetoric and composition from the University of Texas at Arlington. She received a B.A. in Philosophy from Scripps College.

* Joy, interrupted: An Anthology on Motherhood and Loss () is a collection of art and writing from over fifty international authors about "the interruption" grief causes because of various losses associated with motherhood. McCarter conceived of this book as a way to cope with the loss of her five-week-old daughter, Madeleine Miles McCarter, of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 2003 and ectopic pregnancy in 2004 with husband William Matthew McCarter.
