Melinda Smith

Melinda Smith (born 1971) is an Australian poet.
Melinda grew up in rural NSW, but has primarily lived in Canberra since 1989. Her poetry has been published in newspapers, magazines and anthologies in Australia and also overseas. Her poems have also been hung on gallery walls, been set to music and featured on ACTION buses around canberra. being seen by about 10000 commuters a day. Her second book, Mapless in Underland, was highly commended in the ACT Government Library Writing and Publishing Award 2005 In 2006 she won the David Campbell prize Melinda received an artsACT new projects grant in order to complete her third book, First... Then... The book, which is about life with Smith's autistic child, was described in a Canberra Times review as "terse, concentrated, questing without false hope" Melinda regularly reads her poetry at the "Poetry at the Gods" readings series and maintains an active blog and Twitter account., Ginninderra Press, 2001
