Meggie Royer

Meg "Meggie" C Royer was born on September 16, 1994 and grew up in Ames, Iowa with her triplet brother and sister. While she was attending Ames High School, she won the Gold and Silver Medals in the 2013 National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Royer's poetry has been published in several magazines, including "Words Dance."
In 2013, Fameless Publishing released Royer's first book of poetry, called Survival Songs. The book has gotten excellent reviews. Currently, Survival Songs is in the final round of the Goodreads Best Poetry of 2013 contest.
A chapbook, called Healing Old Wounds with New Stitches of Royer's poetry will be published on November 23, 2013. The chapbook will have 26 poems--the first 13 exploring issues of grief and death, and the last 13 embracing happiness and joy. Unlike the poems in Survival Songs, the poems in "Healing Old Wounds with New Stitches will be filled with poems that have not been seen before. Usually, Royer publishes her poems online on her tumblr account, Writings for Winter.
Royer's poetry tends to address real and contemporary issues, including suicide, abortion, rape, gender identities and mental health.
Royer also won the Jeffrey Brown Best of Show Award for her photography in the High School Seniors Show during her years in high school.
The 19 year old Royer is currently attending college, with the intention of earning a BA in psychology.
