Illumination: the Undergraduate Journal of Humanities

Illumination: the Undergraduate Journal of Humanities is a student-run publication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's campus. The journal publishes undergraduate student artwork, essays, poetry, and prose in two issues each year, fall and spring.
History
Illumination, originally named The Symposium, was co-founded by Adam Blackbourn and the General Library System, then directed by Ken Frazier. The first issue was published in spring semester 2005, the second in spring of 2006. Beginning with the 2006-2007 school year, the publication became semi-annual. In spring 2006, the first art gallery in the Open Book Cafe of the campus College Library was displayed, exhibiting art work that had been published in the previous two issues. Beginning in the fall of 2006, Illumination joined the newly-founded Wisconsin Union Directorate Publications Committee. In that same semester, the journal saw an increase in staff from 20 to 40 members.
The journal has a current print-run of 3,000 per semester, and has also increased its viewership through online issues. Staff are all unpaid positions.
