A Matt Griener is an alcoholic beverage containing 7/8 parts Tequila 1/8 Ginger Ale. It was named after Matthew Griener, the son of Paul Griener a bar owner in the South Side of Pittsburgh. Why Tequila and Ginger ale? "Dudeski's" in the Southside (Paul Griener's bar) found that it had a large surplus of both ingredients and in an effort to lower the quantity of Tortilla Gold and Ginger ale he concocted this drink. Paul named it after his son, and sold 1 cent "Matt Grieners" on May 23, 1985 to celebrate the birth of his first son. The tradition continues to this day. Surprisingly, it caught on mainly as a joke drink, to punish someone for turning twenty-one, to make someone gage or puke. (Much like a Bacardi 151 shot, 3 wisemen shot or even worse the dreaded 302 shot) Matthew Griener, now 23 and regular at Dudeski's, drinks only the drink that bares his name and swears that he enjoys it.
