Matthew Gillin is an American entrepreneur, inventor, and philanthropist. Gillin is best known as the co-founder of Ecount, a corporate prepaid card provider. In 2007, Gillin sold Ecount to Citi for US $200 million. He is currently CEO and co-founder of his third business venture, Relay. Biography Gillin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio. In 1995, Gillin co-founded C/Base - an Internet partnership marketing consultancy. C/Base designed programs valued at over US $1.5 billion for companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Hotmail and Citysearch. In 1997 Gillin and business partner, Paul Raden, founded Ecount - an electronic payments company. At the time, Ecount was one of the first providers of corporate prepaid card solutions for the purpose of replacing paper checks and other inefficient payment methods. In 2007, Ecount was sold to Citi for US $200 million to integrate into Citi’s global transaction services business. At the time of its acquisition, Ecount was issuing more than US $4 billion in payments worldwide. After the sale, Gillin remained as CEO of the renamed business, Citi Prepaid Services, until 2009. In 2009, together with Paul Raden, Steve Gillin, and Pete Flick, Gillin founded Relay, a company that helps businesses shift to mobile communications. Gillin holds two patents in the US Patent Office for his inventions around electronic payments, and is the recipient of multiple national and local awards including Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Eastern Technology Council Technology CEO of the Year and Philadelphia Business Journal "40 Under 40", as well as numerous other recognitions for his companies including being named Deloitte Fast 50, Deloitte Fast 500, Philadelphia Business Journal Best Places to Work, and Forbes "Best of The Web." Matt serves on the board of SpeakUp! and AidsAlive. Current work Gillin is currently CEO and co-founder of Relay. Relay helps companies reach their customers through their mobile devices with their consent. Gillin currently lives in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his wife and two children.
