Matt D. Dolman (born December 1, 1991) is an acclaimed Adobe Flash games Action Script 2.0 designer and scholar. Residing in the town of Gisborne, New Zealand Matt's projects include the award-winning game "Avoidance". Dolman was the first recipient of the EIMD Media award for Best Actionscript 2.0 Game. Early Life Matt was born in Gisborne Hospital on December 1, 1991. . He grew up in suburban Gisborne, and was a top student at Mangapapa Primary School, where he enjoyed it's emphasis on creativity, learning and problem solving. Dolman admits he took inspiration for avoidance from his studies at Mangapapa primary. After finishing his final year, he embarked to the next level of tertiary excellence, Gisborne Intermediate, and finally to Lytton High School, where he continues his scholarly persuits to this day. Dolman was an avid fan of Birdwatching, often known for taking hikes for often up to a week into dense bush, a goal partially inspired by his hero, Ted Parker Inspired by childhood friend Wilson Manganda, Matt persued other interests including the study of quantum physics. Education and the early stages of Avoidance. Lytton High School was only too pleased to accept Dolman as a student, and in the year of 2005 he began his first year. Under tutelage of Garth Higgs, he developed a burning passion for the development of Adobe Flash games. Matt continued to create various prototype games, until all his efforts culminated in inspiration for his first, and most famous game, "Avoidance". Says Dolman on the subject; I was playing with simple boundaries one day in mid 2007, and the idea for an epic, sprawling yet intuitive game based entirely on reactive avoidance. Something that would test a human's reflexes, coordination and mental agility at the same time. Dolman worked tirelessly for Exactly two months to complete Avoidance. Burnt out, he fasted from development for three months after, giving time for people to test their mettle against the game. Award On October 18th, 2008 Dolman received a call from mentor Garth informing him that Avoidance had been nominated for not one, but two national level awards for media excellence . , in the categories of Best Actionscript 2.0 Game. Upon attending the awards ceremony in his home town of Gisborne, Dolman was delighted to win, granting him the honour of being the first recipient of the award. Present Projects After a half year hiatus from game programming, Dolman returned in force with the concept for a game tentatively titled "Flying Game". Matt revealed the concept in February 2009, and is expected to have completed the project by mid April. Although immense secrecy has surrounded the project, On long term projects, Dolman has stated multiple times that as a concept design, he wishes to attempt to create a real-word simulation in Adobe Flash.
