Professional Background Matt Burns is a public relations professional based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. Burns served as Director of Communications for the Committee on Arrangements for the 2008 Republican National Convention. Prior to the convention, Burns was the Press Secretary at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Burns acted as a spokesman for then-Secretary Jim Nicholson, and provided information to the press following the theft of a computer hard drive containing more than 26 million veterans' private data. Burns also served in former New York Governor George Pataki’s Administration, at the 2004 Republican National Convention, and on campaigns in New York and Pennsylvania.
