Matt Bailey is an English radio broadcaster, DJ and compere from the North east of England. He is best known for his radio programmes on BBC Radio Newcastle. Career Bailey currently presents the breakfast show on BBC Radio Newcastle, taking over from Alfie Joey in 2022. Before joining BBC Newcastle, Bailey previously covered programmes on BBC Radio Tees and BBC Radio Cumbria. Bailey formerly hosted the breakfast show on in the North East of England, the show team were known as ‘Bodg, Matt and JoJo’ until 2019.The show won the Arqiva/ReelWorld Commercial Radio Breakfast Show of the Year (Bronze Award) in 2016. Bailey started his radio career working as a producer for Alan Robson’s Nightowls on Metro Radio and TFM as well as a sports producer, creative producer and cover presenter. He also created content for its sister stations Magic 1152, Real Radio (now Heart Radio) and Galaxy (now Capital). The team penned a weekly column for Chronicle Live. Bailey is an alumnus of the 30 Under 30 Radio Academy, which is awarded to different individuals, each showing tremendous promise with the trajectory of their careers in radio and audio. Bailey presented the awards ceremony for the annual Corbridge Village Hall on 2 September 2023. Previous hosts include fellow BBC Radio Newcastle Garden Mania presenters Marian Foster and John Guy. During Bailey's time on Capital, he, alongside presenters Bodg and JoJo, attempted various challenges. In 2013, the trio tried to create the worlds biggest Parmo at seven and a half feet, with the previous Guinness World Records at six feet. Achievements Bailey took part in a ‘Pudalo’ challenge for BBC Children in Need as part of his breakfast show on 15 November 2023. He used a pedalo to peddle the length of the Great North Run around Marine Park in South Shields. The challenge took 10 hours, with Bailey finishing the challenge with an appearance on . Bailey previously re-created Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’ music video in aid of Global’s Make Some Noise charity. In May 2024, Bailey’s Breakfast Show won ‘Best Speech Breakfast’ at the Radio Academy Awards.
