Maryjo Adams Cochran

Maryjo Adams Cochran is the dean of Troy University's College of Communications and Fine Arts.
Biography
Early life
Cochran grew up in the village of Paw Paw, Michigan, located near Kalamazoo. She graduated from Mattawan High School in 1971.
Education
In 1974 Dr. Cochran earned her BFA in Speech and Theatre Education from Southern Methodist Universityand her MA (1975)and PhD (1980) in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Michigan. Cochran's doctoral dissertation was on “The Social Relevance and Production of: AS THE WORLD TURNS”. Cochran has produced several television documentaries on the mentally ill homeless, women addicted to heroin, moms in prison, children and violence and other social issues.
Personal
Dr. Cochran is married to John E. Cochran and has two children.
Professional
Dr. Cochran has been in higher education for 31 years: Tulsa University, Baylor University, 9 years at the University of New Mexico as the director of theatre arts television and 13 years at Sam Houston State University as the Coordinator of Radio & Television. Cochran joined Troy University as the dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts in 2005. She also teaches in the Hall School of Journalism. In 2008 she escorted Troy students to London to study British Broadcasting, Theatre and Cultural Arts. Dr. Cochran served as the President of the Confucius Institute at Troy for two years.
