Mary Austin

Mary Austin (born 1951), friend, first love and the only true love of Freddie Mercury, lead vocalist of the British rock band Queen. Queen's record “A Night at the Opera” (1975) contains the Mercury-penned ballad “Love of My Life,” written for Mary Austin.
Austin first met Freddie Mercury (1946-1991) in 1969, when she was 19 years old, and he was 24, a year before the Queen band was formed.
Mary Austin was never legally Freddie Mercury's wife, but she was in a long-term relationship with him. They maintained a seven-year-long romantic relationship and remained close until Mercury's death.
Austin married the painting artist Piers Cameron. They have two children.
Mercury left her half of his estate, including his recording royalties, and his 28-room mansion in Kensington, London, in which he died.
