Marion Miliband

Marion Miliband is the wife of Marxist academic Ralph Miliband and the mother of Labour politicians David Miliband and Ed Miliband. Miliband was born in 1934 in Czestochowa, Poland and was the daughther of wealthy Jewish parents. Miliband fled the Nazis but has not wished to discuss this publicly.
Hasan and Macintyre describe Marion as a "deeply private person" who resented media interest in her life as a result of the 2010 Labour leadership election in which her two sons ran - so much so that in the last weeks of the leadership election she flew to New York to try to escape media attention. Marion is a Labour party member whose politics are considered 'Old' rather than 'New' Labour. Out of a desire not to choose between her two sons Ed Miliband joked during the leadership contest that she was supporting Diane Abbott for Labour leader.
