Marina Kats is an Abington, PA attorney and businesswoman.
Education and Professional Life Marina Kats started her education at Philadelphia Community College and then transferred to Temple University. After graduating, Marina determined that she wanted a profession where she knew she could help people daily. Thus, Marina chose to be an attorney. She graduated from Temple Law School and earned a J.D. and later her LLM in Trial Advocacy. All throughout college, Marina held at least two jobs ranging from dental assistant to ice cream scooper to sandwich maker. After finishing her studies, Marina worked at a Philadelphia law firm until she realized that she had the ability to start her own firm. Today, Marina owns a successful practice. Upon starting her law firm, Marina began several successful business ventures ranging from real estate to finance. One venture many are familiar with is her old radio station, 1540 AM, where Jerry Blavat, the Geator with the Heater/the Boss with the Hot Sauce was her program director on the oldies station.
Kats was named one of the "50 Best Business Women in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania" by former Governor Tom Ridge. Kats is a board member and overseer of the HIAS, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society of Philadelphia. She serves on the Board of Overseers of the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network and is Vice President of Temple University's Presidential Advisory Board and serves on the Temple University Beasley School of Law Alumni Board. Kats is the current President of the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce.
Personal Life Marina and her family came to the United States of America from Ukraine in 1979 with no money and no understanding of the English language. Her first order of business was to learn as much English as possible as it became clear to her that the keys to success in America were education and hard work.
2008 Congressional Campaign Kats decided to challenge incumbent Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz because she believes that politicians in Washington are no longer governing by what is best for our country, but are more concerned with political rhetoric and pleasing special interests. In February 2008, Marina Kats received the endorsement of the Montgomery County Republican Committee.
