A marijuana popper refers to a method of smoking Marijuana and Tobacco that is thought to be popularized in nothern Ontario Canada.
Method A "Popper" is a method of smoking Marijuana in which a glass or metal tube is inserted in a bong or plastic bottle. It is a combination of tobacco and marijuana that is wadded up and stuffed in the outside end of the tube. The tobacco is packed into the tube first, and is most often a small amount of tobacco torn off the end of a cigerette. Once the tobacco is inserted in the tube, a wad of marijuana is packed right on top of it. To smoke a "Popper" the marijuana and tobacco is lit then brewed slowly until it has been completely burnt. Once the marijuana and tobacco is completely burnt, it begins to "sink" into the tube. The smoker must suck or inhale deeply to "pull through" the contents into the water.
Another common form of smoking a "marijuana popper" is without tobacco. Whether or not tobacco is used in the "popper" is largely regional. There tends to be a higher occurrence of tobacco use in regions north of Toronto, ON. While tobacco free poppers are more commonly smoked outside of southern Ontario. In New Zealand this is known as a Gunni.
Geographic Distribution There is much controversy over where "poppers" originated. Many believe it was invented in somewhere in northern Ontario Canada. This has caused heated discussions over which town/city in Ontario originated the popper. Since its invention, this smoking method has become widespread across Ontario and is now gaining popularity in Eastern and Western Canada. Unfortunately it is difficult to determine exactly how widespread "poppers" have become since their inception. They are however extremely popular in muskoka, and areas directly north of Toronto.
