Marek Claassen

Marek Claassen (born 1964 in Bremerhaven, Germany) is a German internet entrepreneur and together with Stine Albertsen founder of the art database ArtFacts.
Biography
After Claassen did a training as a clerk in Berlin´s famous Gallery Brusberg (1989-92) he studied economy at Freie Universität Berlin. He finished his studies in 1995 with creating a computer programme which was able to visualize trends in second hand car dealing market. From early on he had an interest in markets, art and programming which remains until today.
Between 1990 and 1995 together with Professor Gerd Klemm he developed GAP, a Gallery Administration Programme, one of the very first gallery administration software which are common today by companies such as Artbutler, Art-File or Art Systems. In 1996 Claassen developed a website for the newly founded Berlin Gallery Association which offered visitors to do virtual gallery visits. Until 1998 he broadened his cooperation with the German Gallery Association and the art fair company Art Cologne.In 1998 Marek Claassen was elected one of the most successful multimedia entrepreneurs by the Commission of the European Community for his early internet applications. With his company “Claassen & Friends” he developed an automated databased system for typesetting and printing catalogues in 1999, a first cooperation was done with Art Cologne to print exhibitor catalogues in that same year. Finally in 2001 together with Stine Albertsen he founded ArtFacts and acts as its CEO.
