Maanlicht Over De Javaanse Rijstvelden is a 1921 Indonesian landscape painting by the 20th century Dutch impressionist painter, Willem Jan Pieter van der Does. Description This painting titled ″Maanlicht over de Javaanse rijstvelden″ (moonlight over the Javanese paddy fields) painted by Willem Jan Pieter van der Does was probably painted in Bandung, during his trip and stay while working on a project for the Indo-Dutch industrial exhibition in Lembang, Bandung. This picture until now is one of the earliest signed and dated picture by the artist known to have exists. 1920's is Does's early career, where he started as an illustrator for books and local newspapers. This artwork is an example of Willem van der Does's talent in capturing the calm and subtle moonlight. The way he paints the night sky (or early in the morning) are simply extraordinary, he's able to capture and paint it in a deep sense, and without doubt the reflection in the "sawah" (the paddy field) are truly satisfying.
