Lieutenant Colonel James M. TULLY enlisted in the Marine Corps, in August 1951, with action in Korea and was wounded May 1953. Recovered from his wounds, he left active service to attend Iona College New York and served as a NY City police officer decorated 5 times for bravery and meritorious duty. In 1959 he returned to the Marines and on August 31, 1978 retired as one of the most decorated Marine infantryman in the history of the Corps. Dec 1959 During this time he served at Pensacola and as company commander; then as executive officer and commanding officer of the Marine Detachment, USS LITTLEROCK, CIG- 4; 1965 Army Airborne Course, Fort Banning, GA; Nov 1965 Vietnam (wounded twice Apr 66) (served as aerial observer/forward air controller for over 200 mis¬sions); DEC 1966 Follow on Vietnam tour; Jan 1968 Defense Language Institute (1-year Mandarin Chinese); Nov 1968 Marine Amphibious Warfare School, (served 1-year academic Warfare School supervisor); Mar 1969 Republic of China (protocol officer and aide to the Commander, U. S. Taiwan Defense Command, United States Representative on the combined staff for intelligence); Feb 1971 Vietnam tour (charged with air and ground operations in the Rung Sat Special Tone sector) (com¬pleted 300+ aerial missions); Jul 1972 command of the vaunted Third Battalion, Fifth Marines, First Marine Division. (He was the most junior officer ever to hold this position); Jul 1974 United States International University, MBA, San Diego, CA; Feb 1975 Marine Recruiting Command, MCHQ, Arlington, VA.
