In 2012, Richard Yu registered and was granted a design protection in 43 countries for a long hot water bottle which measured 81cm x 12cm. Named the YuYu Bottle, the new design for was highly commended by the UK Giftware Association in 2014 .
The water volume of the YuYu Bottle is of the same as the traditional hot water bottle and also holds it's heat for a similar duration.
Early history
The hot water bottle was invented in the 16th century however the new and longer shaped bottle allows for a larger area of the body to be warmed, with the same quantity of water.
Therapeutic Benefits
Therapeutic benefits of applying heat is most commonly used for rehabilitation purposes. The therapeutic effects of heat include increasing the extensibility of collagen tissues; decreasing joint stiffness; reducing pain; relieving muscle spasms; PMS treatment; menstrual cramps or period pain; reducing inflammation, edema, and aids in the post acute phase of healing; and increasing blood flow. The increased blood flow to the affected area provides proteins, nutrients, and oxygen for better healing.
Certification
The YuYu Bottle was granted the hot water bottle safety standard BS 1970:2012.
Markets
The YuYu Bottle first launched in the UK luxury department store Harrods and is now in stores, Selfridges, William & Son and The Royal Collection Online. Since then, it has made itself available in similar department stores in Germany and Switzerland and is available in France, Italy, Finland, Australia and the US.
Notability
The product inventor, Richard Yu, presented his product on the television show The Dragons Den, in March 2013, where the product was rejected investment due to the product being too expensive for the market the investors wanted to introduce it to.
In December 2015 Carole Middleton was seen purchasing the product at the prominent British retailer William & Son.
In January 2016, Amanda Cable from the Daily Mail Online article proclaimed the product to be a marriage saver.
