Throughout history there have been several men who became famous for being short or whose fame was affected by their height. A classic example is who toured Europe in part because of his dwarfism. He is not listed here as measurement systems were different in his era leading to some confusion on the height of men of his era.
In modern times the lives and concerns of short men have gained attention in part through organizations like Little People of America, films like The Station Agent, and series like Little People, Big World. That stated not all short men count as "little people", but issues like heightism commonly occur.
As implied by the above names should be added only when their short stature is part of their fame or significance. The list ends at 4 foot 11, the height of Twa Ota Benga. Ota was not of below-average size for a Twa male, but most societies have an average height well-above the Twa who have often been called "pygmies."
