Every race in every century were into every kind work(every small or big profession). Nair's and Ezahava's profession, social status were all same in every century.
Nairs were considered under 'AVARNA' because of accepting Chatur Varna system by Brahmins. Whereas Ezavas were considered 'SAVARNA' (those who do not accept Chatur Varna system)
Ezhavas are considered to be descendants of Villavar the founders of ancient Dravidian Chera Dynasty who once ruled parts of southern India. In Malabar they are called Thiyya, while in Tulu Nadu they are known as Billavas. They were formerly known as 'Ilavar'. There were Ayurveda Vaidyars, Warriors, Kalari Trainers, Soldiers, Farmers, Cultivators, Siddha Phyisicans, and Traders. Some were also involved in texile manufacturing, liquor business and toddy tapping.

I am proud that I got birth as an Ezhava which gave a good chance to accept Narayana Guru. I could get Narayana Guru as my great guru, whose teachings can give the objective of everybody's birth. Try to learn his writings. Jealous over Guru and our caste may make hesitation for some idiotic people from other castes. But Guru and we do not have anything to lose. If you can understand the words of Guru, everybody will be equal to you as parabbrahma(One caste, one religion, one god)

I am happy to see the list of present day Ezhavas/Thiyyas. But how many of us who comment in this space do know the determination and struggle our fore-fathers had to educate thier children in Colleges and Universities and built up this community from those days in 1920 to 1950. My rememberance is this is the period my grand father developed in himself the courage and determination and took his sons to Law College and Medical College all the way in Madras. That period changed the fate of coming generation and after generation to this present day. The four sons who subsequently became stalwarts in their own field. Today this family spread all over Malabar has No. of outstading Medical Professionals, Lawyers, Engineers, Professors, Journalists and what not. The present day children listens to tis story from old people like me with utmost disbelief.

Ezhavas are one of the leading and progressive communities in India. SNDP yogam is one of the biggest organisations in Asia.There are more than 6000 shakas(branches)in India and abroad. One of the main drawbacks among Ezhavas is they cannot identify each other becaues they do not use surnames. Why can not we use Ezhavar with our names like nair? If we use surnames we can unite strongly and easily.

hello friends, ezhavas or thiyyas the proud and formost people of kerala.they fall behind in wealth and social status not because of any lack of hardwork ,quality ,brilliancy or any thing.only because they were proud ,and loved their land ,due to unwillingness to become servants of foreign rulers including nambuthiries.those who became their servants got the higher community status and also the sudra status.so we should be proud as we are not an unworthy class.also study history ,all history books are not correct.elamkulam kuchanpilla is a good auther.also beware there was a treachery from christians of central kerala to split ezhavas and thiyyas,because there was a tension there between them in kottayam.one of them as part of the plan has put forward a theory that ezhavas came from europe,its rubbish.they have published a book too ,it was funded by this gang. one thing too,before the british rule entire kerala from managalpuram to kanyakummari ,was known as malabar.and caste divisions were not so rigid as is thought today.its also widely thought that nairs were the sole warriors and soldeirs but its totally untrue.numerous refferences of thiyya pada is there in history.many ministers of samudiri was ezhavas.even the calicut towns cheif officer kothuwal ,forts captain was thiyya.also the chief administer of the town was also an ezhava.even my forefathers were the cheifs and army capains including the body guards of the samudiri family staying in kadalundi area.during sakthan thamupar of kochi ,vadunnatha temple was guarded by ezhavas soldeirs.in travancore the navy captain was thiyya who fought along with veluthampi and is regarded as one of the great heros of kerala.greater part of travancore army comprised of ezhavas only.one thing too there is not much referrence about nair heros or warriors before 15th century.
biologically and ethnically all castes actually have no differ.

Ezhavas are one of the leading and progressive communities in India. SNDP yogam is one of the biggest organisations in Asia.There are more than 6000 shakas(branches)in India and abroad. One of the main drawbacks among Ezhavas is they cannot identify each other becaues they do not use surnames. Why can not we use Ezhavar with our names like nair? If we use surnames we can unite strongly and easily.

Dear nambiar, nairs are called sudras (chootharan and achi) by other casts in the past. even the travencode government records they were called "Malayalam sudras". because, most of them are dependents of brahmens and kshathriyas. when mannath padmanabhan started N.S.S. the economical level of the lion share of the nairs were so bad. so, he modelled S.N.D.P.yogam and started the N.S.S. for the develpement of his cast.if there were no N.S.S. the nairs become one of the backward communities in kerala. according to a surway most of the inter cast married couples are nairs and ezhavas. the interesting thing is the nair ladies married ezhava males as there life partners ! if you have any doubts, pls. check it.

I am indeed glad to see that lot of personalities from Ezhava community are the achievers'in various levels. But still we have to go lot. Main problem is Ezhavas are not preferred and dropped in many areas, though they are single largest community. The treat is from our community also, all must have noticed that if some one attain a level, he or she try to marry an upper class and trying to change their label! The decrease in the Forward caste population has been extremely steep in Kerala, compared to other parts of India. During the 1816, 1836 and 1854 censuses, the forward castes outnumbered the other Hindus by a huge margin. Despite the conversion of large number of Outcaste Hindus to Christianity, Caste Hindus became a minority during 1860s and 70s and during the 1931 and 1941 censuses, the Outcaste Hindus numbered almost twice as much as the Caste Hindus. For example, Nairs numbered two times as much as the Ezhavas during the 1854 census (30% to 15%). But as of 1968, Ezhavas outnumbered Nairs significantly (22% against 14.4%).[4]
See as per the Above Censuses figures the Nairs were onceopen a time most dominating Cast in the Society living in more population than Ezhava Population than, Now the Population Percentage have been reversed. It means that due to some weaker economical crisis among nairs in the society than(Like Sambandham Practices & others) have forced these Nairs to Infiltrated in to the Ezhava Population.

I can't find any significant difference between the communities that exist in kerela.

Ezhavas are the largest community in kerala. They are the founders of chera dynasty. After the brahmin invasion of kerala economically backward part of this community joined brahmins because of fear and became sudras of brahmins now they are called nairs. Accusing other castes, mentioning Ezhava girls are most beautiful all looks a little bit childish and immature. The fact remains that some friends are ferocious of Nairs or other so called upper caste means at the bottom of their heart they feel inferior.
Declaring that I am proud of being an Ezhava is good if it serves a purpose, but if you are not anything special, such declaration will only increase castism among the people who read this comments. I can understand if some people feel proud knowing that there were a number of prominent people who were born to parents belonging to this caste. If you really want to promote your caste, do good things to good people,also be realistic in opinions, do not express feeings with heart but with brain.
Some people have caste inferiority feelings comparing them with the so called upper caste, ironically they will normally have superiority feelings comparing them with the so called lower castes. Both are dangerous. Somebody is dark / fair, beautiful / ugly, upper caste / lower caste is not a virtue of the person since he or she has never selected it, they are born with it, so why bother. What is in our control is your personality developed from your charecter and be PROUD of THAT.

In Malabar Ezhavas are called Thiyyas and so a suitable surname yet to be developed. I think Chekavar is a good surname because we were brave warriors of past centuries. From today onwards I use Chekavar as my surname.I know Kalari payattu.Other communities do not be jealous.

During the period of Great Marthanda Varma(17 century) many Ezhava(Thiyya) brave warriors sacrificed their lives for Travancore. Historians of Travancore purposly omitted their names. All soldiers of Kazhakuttathu Pillai,Kulathoore Pillai and Chempazhanthi Pillai were Ezhavas(Thiyyas) and they joined Great Marthanda Varmas army after the defeat of Ettuveettil Pillamars.

I am proud to be a member of ezhava Community. But the main drawback of this community is lack of unity. each one of them are selfish and thinks the way how one can stab down his own brother for personal interests. See the leader shri Vellapally and Shri. Vidyasagar. For what they are fighting eachother and split in two corners. It just helps in decreasing the strength, power and confidence. Consider Nair community., there is no bargaining or competition among the leaders and so is their development in various fields. When coming to Ezhava community if anyone gets topper in a field say in a scientific position he will be trying to block any other Ezhava to reach this position. This attitude should be changed then only we could attain good position. I shall quote one example here. Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology is a well known institution . Do anyone knows the fact that Dr. V.V. Asha (daughter of Shri. V.S. Achudanandan)is the only Ezhava scientist there. All others belong to forward community that we could guess. The appointment there does not hold any criteria, just based on caste. Our Community leaders does not try to understand this, if then too they dont respond.

i think the real problem lies within the ezhava community..ezhavas themselves are not aware of their power..,their proud and brave ancestry ..i think awareness classes should be oriented by the SNDP yogam telling the ezhava people about their valiant ancestors like Unni Archa, aromal chekavar and the like...more and more people should be encouraged to undertake entrepreneurship....above all a system should be established so that a hindu ezhava could marry a hindu nair without any oppositions form the caste organisations like SNDP and NSS...i beg your pardon..all the leaders of the SNDP and NSS to allow the girls and boys to choose their life partners from both the castes respectively, without showing any personal or religious prejudices to them..please let them live their life....please this is a request to of them who have made above comments..please spend your time and power to do anything for this...this is a humble request

After defeating Ettuvettilpillamars Great Marthandavarma of Travancore(AD.1729-1758) did not believe Nair soldiers.He recruited brave Ezhava(Thiyya) soldiers from Kazhakuttam, Chempazhanthy and Kulathoore( Thiruvananthapuram). Renakeerthy Chekavar was the army commander of Great Marthandavarma. Renakeerthy chekavar was a Thiyya(Ezhava) Kalarippattu expert from Thalassery formerly he was in the Zamorins army of Malabar. Pappan Panikker(Kottaram vydyan and Kalarippayyatu expert) brought him secretly from Thalassery. It was belived both of them reached Padmanabhapuram by sea. Renakeerthy chekavars real name was Raghava Chekavar Great Marthandavarma named him Renakeerthy chekavar after capturing Kayamkulam kingdom. Historians of Travancore purposly omitted these particulars from the history of Travancore.

Malayala maorama paper is trying to differentiate ezhavas and thiyyas of Malabar. In an article today, a doctor says that thiyyas are Kirgisthanees. Kyrgisthan is the second poorest country in the former Soviet union in central Asia. People of Kyrgisthan are mostly Muslims and they migrated from nearby Turkey.
