Libertree

Libertree is a free Software for building up distributed social networks. The reference implementation the server- and frontend component is written in the programming language Ruby. A Haskell-implementation of the server module is also available.
Philosophy
Libertree is a social network free from the tentacles of commercial interests. The community is cultivated to be open and friendly towards others. The Libertree project thrives to help people experience being listened to, talked with and acknowledged, this can be seen with the relationship that the developers have nurtured with their community.
Scope of service
In Libertree server are called „trees“, a network of servers are called „forest“ and an administrator is a „arborista“ (professional to maintain the „forest“). Libertree has „rivers“, which contains postings from users. For special interest rivers can be added or already available ones can be modified. This works with the hashtags. Libertree has besides a web chat based on the WebSocket-protocols. Libertree has in addition a function named „pool“, with that feature you can collect interesting postings and you can categorize subjects. A new feature is a "spring". A "spring" enables you to publish pools, with that you can publish pools and share them with other users, additionally users can put the springs in to their rivers.
History
The Libertree-project was started in March 2012 from two former Diaspora-contributors. The source code of the reference implementation was published on the 13. Mai 2012 on GitHub. Currently there are three public trees in one forest. Those servers ( trees ) are located in the United States, Slovenia and France.
Further development
Libertree is constantly evolving. Future intended features including groups, a chat based on XMPP and uploading of pictures.
