Lib Peck

Elizabeth "Lib" Peck (born May 1967) is the Director of the Violence Reduction Unit at London City Hall since 2019, appointed by London Mayor Sadiq Khan. In November 2012, Peck was elected as Leader of Lambeth Council following the election of Steve Reed as MP for Croydon North, who subsequently stood down as Leader of the council.
Early life
Peck studied Modern History and Politics at the University of Manchester, in 1996 she became assistant director of JUSTICE from 1996 to 2003.
Political career
Peck was elected as a Labour councillor for the Thornton ward of the London Borough of Lambeth in 2001 via a by-election. In her role she pushed to retain Clapham Fire Station.
In May 2006, Peck was appointed as Cabinet Member for Environment and Culture. In March 2008, she was appointed as Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, later re-structured to Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Strategic Housing until elected as Leader of the Council in 2012, following as Member of Parliament.
In April 2017, Peck was the Deputy Labour Leader of the Local Government Association.
On 14 January 2019, Peck announced she was standing down as Leader of Lambeth Council after 6 years and as a Councillor after 18 years to become the Director of the Violence Reduction Unit at London City Hall.
As the Director of the Violence Reduction Unit she has reported on increases in knife crime in London and endorsed the stop and search practices of the UK police.
