Leicester Banks CC

Leicester Banks Cricket Club was formed in 1878 by the four banks in Leicestershire for recreational purposes of ther employees. In the 1970's it was opened to anyone who wished to join. The clb was one of the original of the Everards league in 1974.

Jack Curtis played a major role in developing cricket at Bank Sports Club who has supported by the club captain at the time David Lawrence. The club was very fortunate to have some young cricketers who took the club forward with their performances in the league.

Banks celebrated it's centenay in 1978 an played some matches against the MCC, Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the League XI. The highlight of all these matches was the performance of Arun Joshi who scored 50 against a strong MCC side.

The other highlight of the 70's was playing cricket alongside the great Gary Lineker who was a regular member of the side and a very good cricketer and in the late 80's we saw the emergence of Darren Maddy who went on to become a Leicestershire and England player, and now known as the King of Twenty20.

In 1996 Leicester Banks went on their first tour of India and again in 1988, and this was one of the highlights in the club's history. The club ties with the Delhi Blues Cricket Club began way back in 1988 and still carries on to the present day. They are planning on touring England in 2008 and will playing against Leicester Banks. During the past 20 years Delhi Blues have included some former test players such as Kirti Azad, Viveck Razdan, Maninder Singh and Ajay Jadeja in their team.

In the 90's the club entered its finest cricketing moments by playing in a Leicestershire Premier League under the leadership of Nilesh Patel and we continue playing. In 2006 history was created by winning the Leicestershire county cup. With the contribution of Andy Jackman and Ashwin Patel it helped them win the county cup under the Leadership of Asim Khan.
