Lee Kirksey

Lee Kirksey is an African American vascular surgeon practicing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center Kirksey was the second African American to receive specialty certification in vascular surgery from the American Board of Surgery-Vascular Surgery Board. The initial surgeon was L. Joseph Downing, a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine.

Kirksey has contributed to the literature regarding healthcare disparities in African Americans. Kirksey founded and is currently the President of the nonprofit organization, The Philadelphia Peripheral Arterial Disease Coalition, commissioned to increase the healthcare provider and public awareness about the prevention and treatment of peripheral vascular disease.

Kirksey is a co-author with Seema Patel of Your Guide to Optimal Health: Your Personal Wellness Wheel. The book describes an eight step approach to improved personal health emphasizing the role of preventative healthcare, life style changes, nutrition, exercise, stress management and the optimism.
