Laurie Coots (born May 23, 1957) is an American advertising strategist. Background Coots grew up in Glendora, California, and she has a son, Christopher, who was born in 1982. Career In 1984, Coots joined the advertising agency Chiat\Day as a secretary on the Apple computer account; in 1997, after the company merged with TBWA to become , she was appointed chief operating officer. Coots played a lead role in the Apple campaign, and later founded the TBWA network's strategic unit, \Disruption Works, which applied the company’s methodology to solving business problems. Following her tenure as COO, Coots led TBWA’s global marketing as chief marketing officer of , serving as a long-lead strategist and advising both the TBWA network and its clients on emerging consumer behavior and the relationship with converging technology and entertainment. She served as a member of the TBWA’s Executive Committee until July 2013. Coots worked at TBWA\Worldwide from 1984 to July 2013. During this time, TBWA grew from a single-location, 75 person advertising agency to an integrated marketing services firm with 258 offices in 75 countries, and just over 11,000 people. Over the course of her career, she worked with notable executives including Jay Chiat, Lee Clow, Guy Day, Steve Jobs, Jean-Marie Dru, and Jim Stengel. Coots was a participating author in the best-selling business book, Beyond Disruption: Changing the Rules in the Marketplace, by Jean-Marie Dru, and also contributed to Jim Stengel's book Grow. She is a speaker at international conferences, where she focuses on marketing-related topics including technology, advertising, and innovation in the workplace. While the CMO of TBWA Worldwide, she was a speaker for advertising-related conferences such as Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Spikes Asia's Festival of Creativity, 4A's Public Relations Conference and Goafest. She is a part of ' speakers bureau, and has spoken about social activism at Ted conferences. Additionally, she facilitates "Disruption Workshops" and consults corporations on marketing initiatives. Coots is a founding board member of the Minority Advertising Training Foundation and sits on the Advisory Board of Open Road Publishers, the UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television at UCLA in Los Angeles. Additionally, Coots is the president of the consultancy \Disruption Works, a position she has held since January 2012.
