Larry H. Cunningham

Lawrence Hugo Cunningham is an American legal scholar and academic administrator. He is the 5th dean and provost of Charleston School of Law. Cunningham was a law professor at St. John's University School of Law from 2008 to 2020. He is a scholar of higher education, judicial ethics, and insurance law, among other topics.
Career
Cunningham completed a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from John Jay College and law degree Georgetown Law School. He then clerked for Judge Claude Hilton of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is admitted to practice law in New York State, Texas, and Virginia. Cunningham was an assistant district attorney in the appeals bureau of the Bronx County District Attorney's office.
From 2008 to 2020, Cunningham was a law professor at St. John's University School of Law. He is a scholar of higher education, judicial ethics, and insurance law, among other topics.
On June 30, 2020, Cunningham succeeded Andy Abrams as dean of the Charleston School of Law. He is a proponent for safe spaces in higher education.
