John Manydeeds

John Manydeeds (born 1960) is an American jurist from Wisconsin, currently serving as Circuit Court Judge in Eau Claire County of the 10th Judicial District. Manydeeds also serves on the Sate Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and the Marijuana ad hoc committee. Elected in 2016 as the first Native American to the Eau Claire Circuit Court bench, Manydeeds is the only Native American to currently serve as a Judge in the Wisconsin Circuit Court.
Biography
Manydeeds was born in 1960 in Ashland, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science degree from the University of Minnesota. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School and was admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1985.
Attorney
Manydeeds worked as an attorney in the Eau Claire State Public Defender Office for thirty-one years. He served as a member of the Chippewa County Criminal Justice Collaborating Council, the Evidence Based Decision Making Policy Team and the Eau Claire County Drug court. He also served as president of the Chippewa County Bar. The Office of the State Public Defender recognized his work with youth by granting him membership into the Reuben Society.
County Board of Supervisors
Manydeeds served on the Eau Claire County Board of Supervisors from 2009 to 2016. He was the chair of the Judiciary and Law Enforcement Committee. This committee is responsible for the departmental policy and oversight of various County agencies, including the Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney, the Criminal Justice Collaborating Council, and others. Manydeeds also served as a member of the Committee on Administration and Chippewa Valley Regional Airport Commission. John sat on the Methamphetamine Response Committee and the Security and Facilities Committee. In the past, he was a member of UW Extension Education and the Building Committee.
Judicial service
In November 2015, Manydeeds announced his candidacy for Eau Claire County Circuit Judge of the First Branch of the Tenth Judicial District of Wisconsin. He ran against incumbent Judge Brian Wright, who was appointed to the position by Governor of Wisconsin Scott Walker. Manydeeds defeated incumbent Wright in the general election on April 5, 2016 with over 55 percent of the vote. The investiture for Judge Manydeeds was held on August 1, 2016 with Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Shirley Abrahamson administering the Oath of Office.
Personal
Manydeeds lives with his wife, Karen in Eau Claire. They have two adult children. John serves as a member of the executive board of the Boy Scouts of America-Chippewa Valley Council. He has also coached high school mock trial for over twenty-five years.
