LAPA Publishers is a South African publisher of books, primarily in Afrikaans but sometimes in English. LAPA stands for "lees Afrikaans, praat Afrikaans," in English "read Afrikaans, speak Afrikaans." It publishes both serious literature and popular literature which it markets via a book club. It is also a publisher of children's books. History LAPA was founded before World War II by Johannes Petrus van der Walt under the name Springbok-Biblioteek. In 1958, J.P. van der Walt hired his son, Manie, as managing director. In 1961, the company was renamed J.P. van der Walt & Son, Ltd. In October 1996, the ATKV bought the company and renamed it LAPA.
