Land Krill

Land Krill is the name used by most to describe a species of Crustaceans that, unlike most of it's marine life cousins, inhabit the land. Land Krill are a rare species that can only be found on the Island of Oroluk. Despite having many similarities with sea Krill, Land Krill are vertebrates and are also (slightly) higher in the food chain. This species is among the least scientifically studied specimens in the Animal kingdom; about number two in "101 forgotten species" by Hans Krougar.
Despite efforts from the government authorities of Oroluk, the population of Land Krill has been gradually decreasing since human exploitation of the species began in 1677. In 1677, records state (although highly inaccurate) that there were at least 50,000,000 million Land Krill inhabiting the Island; a recent count in 2004 showed that only 2,000,000 remain. Scientists believe this is partly because they are "easy food" for predators on the Island; but mainly because of mass hunting.
