LA Podfest

The LA Podfest is a three day long festival created by Graham Elwood, Chris Mancini, Dave Anthony and Andy Wood meant to celebrate and promote the medium of podcasting. The first of which was held October 2012. Inception In the spring of 2012 the Kickstarter for a first of its kind podcast festival was announced, dubbed the LA Podfest. With a goal of $20,000 set, it was surpassed and the organizers were able to raise over $24,000 in contribution from donors. On his podcast Walking the Room, Anthony stated his reasoning for created the festival was to avoid the cheapening of the medium by major backers not familiar with the community. By crowd sourcing the project through Kickstarter it allowed the team involved to stay attached to the indie roots the medium is set around. Soon after the goal was reached a date was set for the first event of October 12-14 in Santa Monica, California. The original list of venues included the Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica Hotel and Barnum Hall at Santa Monica High School. Tickets were later put on sale that allowed attendees to pay for passes for the entire weekend. This was later modified to allow of the purchase of day-specific passes as well as entry to the stand-up show that would be held during the festival by many of the notable hosts from the various shows. In addition to featuring various shows, the festival will also be host to panels on subjects such as how to market a podcast in the internet age and the technology behind creating one. Some questioned the initial line-up of the first festival as it mostly contained only comedy podcast. It was later stated by the festival's organizers that while their plan is to expand to all podcast genres in later years, they wanted to start with a focus on comedy.
