Kurtiss Colvin

Kurtiss Colvin (born March 21, 1987, in Austin, Texas), is an American track runner and boxer. He won four state championships and was crowned AAU champion three times. Colvin currently holds the High School record in the 400 m and 4 x 400 m relay, and formerly held the College in the 200 m and Indoor 400 m. His 200 m time of 19.99 at Drake University relays stood as the record for over 4 years. Colvin has also run the fastest 300 m in college history, which is not recognized by IAAF as a "world record" due to the 300 m being an unofficial event. Colvin is also ranked # 1 in Golden glove boxing, Colvin is also said to be Austins best professional contender since Benny Browser in 1976.
Colvin was arrested in the beating death of a house painter who was killed when he tried to protect a driver who had struck and injured a toddler. Austin police charged Colvin with felony manslaughter, as well as felony theft and misdemeanor assault. On October 22, 2008, Colvin was found guilty of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, but acquitted of manslaughter. The next day the jury recommended probation. Formal sentencing is scheduled for November 3, where he faces up to 10 years probation.
