Hailey Dunn

Hailey Darlene Dunn (born August 28th, 1997) went missing from her hometown of Colorado City, Texas on December 27th, 2010. She was 13-years-old at the time and was a student at the Colorado City Middle School and a cheerleader. As of March 30th, 2011, police reported that they believe Hailey is dead and will mostly be looking for her remains. Mary Beth's mother said that Hailey and her daughter had no plans that night and she did not know Hailey was intending on coming over her house at all. Billy Dunn reported Hailey missing the next day, December 28th, 2010.
Investigation
Shawn Adkins told investigators that the day of Hailey's disappearance, he was fired from his job. However, It was later learned that he went to work that day and left abruptly, quitting his job. Adkins also told the police he went to his mother's house in Big Spring, Texas, after leaving work, but according to his phone records he was in Colorado City. Adkins did go to Big Spring later in the day, though. Hailey's brother, David Dunn said he knocked on the door of his house for 5 minutes before entering through a window in the afternoon. David Dunn said Adkins was there in the house, though, staring with "a dear in the headlights look". At around 6pm, Shawn went to pick up Billie Jean from work. From there they went to withdraw money from 2 ATM machines in Snyder, before going to Scurry County to buy illegal drugs. On New Years Eve of 2010, only 3 days after reporting Hailey missing, Billie Dunn and Adkins hosted a party at their house. They said they just invited some people over for a few drinks, trivializing the event. It did not appear that Hailey ran away from home, since she left her contact solution, her MP3 player and her jacket at home, when it was chilly. These are items that she normally would have taken with her.
Early on in the investigation, Shawn Adkin became a suspect because of inconsistent statements and strange comments which he supposedly made.
He alledgedly made a comment to a relative, which compared the killing of a teenager to a deer. Also, it was learned that in February of 2010, police were at Billie Dunn's residence because of a domestic violence call. During an argument, Adkins threatened to kill both Hailey and Billie Dunn. Adkins first denied this, but later confessed that he did in fact make these threats.
The police searched Shawn Adkin's belongings and found that he frequents a website, Michael-Meyers.net which features horror films and scary masks. On a Myspace page, there are photos of him in a scary mask while holding a knife. Adkins has been reported as being obsessed with horror and slasher movies.
During the investigation of Billie Dunn's house, police found printed documents of serial killers, sexual sadism and mass murders from various websites. Billie referred to this as a hobby of both hers and Adkins. Adkins volunteered to take a polygraph tests 3 times, but on the first two times, he stopped and walked out in the middle. The third time Adkins took the polygraph, he failed, but said Hailey was in Scurry Co. of which registered as a positive result. Billie took a polygraph test of which she failed regarding questions concerning the "participation of the disappearance of Hailey".
After the police searched Shawn Adkin's phone, they found unsettling messages about Billie Dunn on them. Billie Dunn made a no trespassing order against Adkins which meant that he was not allowed on her property for a year.
Arrests
In March of 2011, Billie Dunn was arrested after she lied about Adkins being at her residence, when the police came looking for him, in order to issue a search warrant. The police found Adkins at Dunn's house and also found dangerous drugs. The drugs were not illegal but were prescription drugs that Dunn did not have a prescription for. She was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction of justice and drug possession.
Billie Dunn pled no contest to making a false report and was given a year of probation, instead of 90 days of jail which was dropped because of the plea agreement. The other charges were dropped also because of the plea agreement. Billie Dunn moved to Travis County, Texas and was ordered to serve her probation there .
Hailey's father, Clint Dunn was arrested in April of 2011 for failing to appear for two misdemeanor charges. He was charged with possessing marijuana and driving with an invalid license. He was on probation for possession of marijuana. Clint Dunn has a number of offenses on his record including a burglary charge.
