KULATHAKKAL THARAVADU or Family is one of the oldest Christian family in Centre Travancore. It is beleived that the founder of this family "RAMAR NAMBOODIRI" ( later "RAMACHA" ) came from Nilakal and lived in Maramon from 1250 AD onwards, in the ancient Kulathakkal Tharavadu; which is located on the banks of Holy River Pumpa. Due to the close contact of Maliyekal Tharakan, who was the senior person of the most prominent Christian Family in Maramon Area, Ramar Namboodiri accepted Christanity.
