Koto Jazz music is a piano synthesis of Japanese koto music, western rhythm, and new age jazz. It does not use the Japanese koto instrument in its music, but is played on a piano or keyboard. It preserves a range of traditional Japanese koto sounds and melodies.
The following famous Japanese koto titles, for example, are re-purposed with a new western style energy - Sakura, Tori No Yo Ni, Aki No Koto No Ha, Haru No Umi, Rokudan, and Midare. There are other contemporary styles of new age Koto Jazz pieces, such as Hatchidori Wa Hana Ka Hana (Hummingbird Flies from Flower to Flower), Kuriku Iwa No Hamon (Ripples on Creek Rocks), Kozan No Kaze [Alpine Wind (Storm)], and Aki No Ho (Toward the Autumn Season) (see http://kotojazz.com).
