|
The Kodiak Island UFO, 2007 concerns a multi-witness sighting of a flaming UFO over the Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak, Alaska on 25 September 2007. The sighting At approximately 6:45 a.m that day, the Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers and local enforcement officers around Kodiak, Alaska received dozens of reports and first-hand sightings of the unidentified phenomenon. The object was said to be very bright with explosions and red tracers. Other accounts describe "lightning" occurring around the phenomenon. According to Kodiak Police Chief T.C. Kamai who was on his way home from his morning workout, “I was headed home from the gym and I saw flashes in the sky that looked like lightning, and I was trying to figure out what it was,” he said. Another resident, Jenny Horning from Anton Larsen described the direction in which the UFO travelled, "We got to watch it for a few seconds before it went behind the mountains,” Jenny Horning said, “I saw a ball of red with streamers of red flames behind it.” Yet another resident from Chiniak, Alaska, Jan Pennington has an account of the situation, “It was traveling west to east and went behind a tree,” Pennington said. Official reaction The Coast Guard and various space agencies were unaware of any distress beacons or missing aircraft. Soon after the initial sighting was made, authorities and emergency personnel were dispatched for discovering what had become of the UFO. “They did a low-altitude flyover, looking for any signs of fire or pitting. Then they did a higher-altitude flyover and they still did not see anything,” Petty Officer 3rd Class Richard Brahm, a Coast Guard spokesman, said. Alaska State Troopers went further, trying to confirm from space agencies if a satellite had gone missing, trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said. Ipsen said troopers in Kodiak specifically contacted authorities in charge of YES-2, an experimental satellite that reportedly malfunctioned. “We do not have anyone saying they have a missing satellite, but that doesn’t mean there is not one out there,” Ipsen said. “It is still a mystery, but the good thing is that we know it is not a plane,” she said.
