Kirat Anand Kirat Anand (born December 26th, 1978) is an Indian-American fashion designer who founded the contemporary women’s clothing brand KAS NEW YORK in 2007. Kirat is the owner and designer of KAS NEW YORK. His design studio and showroom are based in New York City, with his main office in Long Island, NY and factory in New Delhi, India. Background Kirat was born in New Delhi and raised and educated in New York. Having first generation entrepreneurs as his parents, he ended up spending many months at a time in New Delhi throughout his childhood. He has a younger brother and his parents live bi-coastally between the US and India. Career He has a double major in Finance and Information Systems from New York University's Stern School of Business. Initially, Kirat started his professional career as an investment banker at JPMorgan Chase, but it was not long before he left to become a designer. He grew up in the fashion industry where his father is a self-made manufacturer and his mother a designer, so he didn't need to look far for inspiration or guidance. KAS NEW YORK Kirat launched KAS NEW YORK in 2007. The KAS from the label derives from his name, Kirat Anand Singh, while the NEW YORK in label stands for his muse: the urban, confident, boho-lux woman he creates for. Kirat debuted KAS NEW YORK at the Pool Show August 2006 with the Spring/Summer 2007 collection. Since then, he has participated in trade shows such as New York’s Fashion Coterie, Project Las Vegas, Premium Berlin, Miami Swim Fashion Week, and Designer and Agents Los Angeles.Women’s Wear Daily has listed KAS NEW YORK as “Best in Show” numerous times. Using his cultural influences and researching trends, Kirat has created an affordable luxury and contemporary woman's ready-to-wear brand. Prior to KAS NEW YORK, Kirat created capsule collections for department stores such as Nordstrom, Macy's and Dillard’s under his diffusion label KAS Designs. Kirat also has a private label business as well. In 2008, Anand was nominated by the International Design Awards for the Fashion Designer of the Year award in the Prêt-a-Porter category. In 2009, Anand created a capsule kids collection, KAS KIDTURE, for Saks Fifth Avenue. Malia Obama daughter of the US president, wore one his outfits at the Inaugural Concert. Company KAS NEW YORK is a contemporary women’s brand. Kirat Anand is the owner and designer and works alongside his mother, Sabby Anand who is the company’s creative director. The brand is carried by retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Anthropologie, Scoop NYC, Stanley Korshak, Estnation in Japan among others. Kirat produces a full collection every season consisting of dresses, blouses, tunics, caftans, cover-ups, jackets, skirts and bottoms. His collections feature cutwork detail, appliqué detail, embroidery, and embellishments along with vibrant colors and prints. Kirat's company, KAS NEW YORK, has been featured in the pages of Women's Wear Daily, , , , InStyle, In Touch Weekly, Us Weekly, , , , , Newsday, WGSN, FashionSnoops and other industry publications or trend/research analysis providers.
