The Song 'King of the Gypsies' was written by Chris Gorman and Nick Harty who are members of the band Satellites based in Manchester ,Uinited Kingdom. It was inspired by and written in tribute to the late Bartley Gorman . Bartley Gorman was a champion at Bare-knuckle boxing in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Between the years of 1972 and 1992 he held the title of Bareknuckle Champion of Great Britain & Ireland, often simply called the King of the Gypsies. He was the most famous bareknuckle boxer of recent times, in Britain if not the World. The independent film director Shane Meadows has said numerous times that he is interested in making a film of Gorman's life, to be entitled King of the Gypsies. |
