Kilibarda

Kilibarda is a well-known surname of Montenegrin origin also embracing a couple of regional Montenegrin toponyms. The geographical roots of the family stem from the Western Montenegrin region locally referred to as the "Banjani" district (or locally referred to as tribe - Serbian translation: "pleme") located on the southern borderline between what is nowadays Montegro and the region of Herzegowina.
Mainly due to wide-spread emigration waves from Southeast Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries, people holding this surname have spread outside of Montegro in substantial numbers to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegowina, the United States, Argentine and various other countries.
The specific cultural tradition of this family is manifested in the annual celebration (.org/wiki/Slava "slava") in honour to the Holy Archangel Micheal as per 21 November each year. In addition to this a large meeting of the Kilibarda family is held in Montenegro or Belgrade (Serbia) each year, being organised by the Kilibarda brethren committee and thus holding a family reunion as well as a celebrational character.
